Keep kids safe at holiday celebrations
We can’t deny it: It’s pretty fun to blow things up in the back yard on the Fourth of July. But we also can’t deny this: According to the U.S. Eye Injury Registry, an estimated 12,000 fireworks-related injuries are treated in U.S. hospital emergency rooms every year.
And up to 400 Americans suffer permanent vision loss annually because of fireworks.
So what’s a parent to do when the kids are begging for bottle rockets and sparklers and the neighborhood sounds like a giant popcorn-maker because everyone in town loaded up on illegal fireworks?
One option: Try some non-exploding fun for the little ones.
